Alpha Boys' School
Alpha Boys School was founded by the Sisters of Mercy more than 100
years ago. It is located at 26 South Camp Road, Kingston and caters
to boys who are abused, abandoned, neglected or orphaned and are deemed
to be in need of care and protection. The facility accepts boys who
are wards of the State as well as some who are privately placed.
The Government, Child Development Agency, Ministry of Health provides
a subvention to the Home for the children placed by the Agency. The
Alpha Boys School raises funds from private organizations and individuals
to assist it in meeting its objectives.
The Home offers
academic training as well as trade training to the boys including
tailoring, woodwork, printing, binding and music. The income generating
trades are sponsored by HEART/NTA.
The band at Alpha Boys School is well known throughout Jamaica, having
performed at various locations and has produced many talented musicians.
Some boys main contact with their families and are reintegrated with
them at an appropriate time.
There are 150 boys between 8-17 years of age currently residing at
Alpha Boys School.

Makes Scholarship Donation To Alpha Boys Home
KINGSTON, JAMAICA
June 6, 2007- Mr. Gary Williams, Chairman/Founder of Children
of Jamaica Outreach, (COJO) Inc. (left) and Althea Knight, COJO Executive
congratulate Edney Samuels and Ricky Bonfield on being chosen as recipients
of scholarships valued at US$1,000 each towards continuing their education.
A delegation from the New York based Jamaican charity was in Jamaica
recently to make presentations to Alpha Boys Home and City of
Refuge. In addition to the scholarships, both institutions received
a 37 LCD flat screen television set, school supplies and sneakers,
donated by Jamaican Patrick Ewing, former NBA star.

COJO is a non-profit
organization in New York, whose mission is to help improve the health,
education and general well being of underprivileged children in Jamaica
as well as the United States.

A GIFT FROM NEW
YORK: Sister Mary Ignatius, principal of the Alpha Boys' School expresses
her appreciation for a financial gift presented by Gary Williams,
Chairman/Founder of Children of Jamaica Outreach, (COJO) Inc a New
York based Jamaican charity. The money was raised at COJO's annual
gala in New York which was supported by Sandals, Air Jamaica, British
Airways and BWIA. A group of boys from the school look on.
